Former England skipper Joe Root executing a reverse ramp to perfection against the fast bowlers will always amaze the spectators. However, Root’s young teammate Harry Brook feels that it is almost a safe shot now and the team is always behind the batting maestro’s decision in the middle.
Joe Root startled a fair few after he attempted to ramp Aussie skipper Pat Cummins on the very first delivery of the fourth day in Birmingham. Although he failed to connect against Cummins, he employed the same shot against Scott Boland to great success in the next over, bagging a boundary and a maximum.
While Harry Brook lauded Root’s control over the shot, he felt it was down to England’s revolutionary approach in the longest format of the game that is reflected in the performance of each batter.
“It (The reaction to Root’s first-ball reverse scoop) was more of an ‘Oh my god!’ (laughs). He has played that shot so many times, scored so many runs. It has been a strong shot of his in the past 12 months or whatever. So we back him and he hits it. It’s almost like a non-risky shot now.
It’s the way the whole team is playing is having an influence on everybody. Smashing first ball of first day for four makes you remember how we are playing and the way that Stoksey and Baz wants us to play. Everybody is inspiring each other,” Brook said in a video shared by England Cricket.

Hopefully they can come strong again tomorrow and be just as loud: Brook
Brook, playing his first Ashes Test, is enjoying every moment of the Edgbaston Test. He highlighted the support that the team has received from a boisterous crowd in Birmingham and is hoping for more of the same on a blockbuster fifth day.
“It’s been good so far. The crowd has been immense. The Hollies have been going off everyday. Hopefully they can come strong again tomorrow and be just as loud,” he added.
