India have got off to a terrific start in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as they’ve won all of their three matches so far. The Rohit Sharma-led side has beaten Australia, Afghanistan and Pakistan to take the top spot on the points table having six points from three games. Being the hosts of the event, the Men in Blue are the firm favourites to win the coveted trophy and end their 12-year-long drought of an ICC event.

Recently, former Australia and two-time World Cup-winning captain Ricky Ponting commented on India’s dominant run so far in the tournament said that it was obvious that India will get off to a great start. However, it will only take one bad game from the team to make the pressure rise on them.

“With the individual players that they have got it’s going to take one bad game as a team and as an individual for the pressure to rise. Obviously, they’ve got off to a great start and they will be happy with that,” Ponting was quoted as saying by ICC (International Cricket Council).

Further speaking about India’s team combination, the three-time World Cup winner said that they’ve got all the bases covered but their real test will be performing under extreme pressure.

“They’ve got all bases covered with their fast bowling, their spin and their top-order, middle-order batting. They’re going to be extremely hard to beat. But we’ll see how they hold up under extreme pressure as well. We can’t sit back and say that the pressure won’t get to them at some stage, or it won’t affect them, because it will, just with the enormity of the tournament,” he added.

India to next face Bangladesh

Meanwhile, having won the first three games of the tournament, India will next lock horns with Bangladesh on Thursday, October 19 at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. Notably, Bangladesh are coming into the match having lost both of their last two fixtures against England and New Zealand and are ranked on the seventh spot on the points table.
