After losing the recently concluded T20I series against India, Bangladesh women came back with a brilliant performance in the ODI series. Getting off to the perfect start, the Nigar Sultana-led side won the first ODI of the series by 40 runs through the DLS method.
Notably, it was also Bangladesh’s first ODI victory over India, which was a monumental achievement for the team. With the first ODI win, the hosts have the chance to do the unthinkable and possibly clinch the ODI series when both sides face each other in the second ODI on Wednesday, July 19.
Following their brilliant win in the first ODI, skipper Nigar Sultana took center stage and heaped praise on her side for registering a magnificent victory. After the win, she opined that the players should further build for the win and even try to go for the series-victory.
“We are very happy winning an ODI after a long time, It is a huge achievement for the team. It will help us play much better in the future. We have defeated India after a long time. Plus, it happened in Mirpur. It is definitely part of history. We want to create a little more history,” Nigar Sultana was quoted as saying by the ICC.
Our job isn’t done yet: Sultana
Furthermore, the skipper was of the opinion that despite winning the first ODI, the job was not done yet, and she conveyed the same message to her teammates as well. She also stated that doing well will now raise expectations, and she wants her players to show more responsibility.
“The girls were quite excited, but I told them our job isn’t done yet, doing well raises our responsibilities. There are more expectations for us now. We know that if we continue to play better cricket, we will take another step towards a bigger achievement. So I have kept them calmed down after a big celebration,” Sultana said.
