Mumbai batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has scripted history in the ongoing Irani Cup. The youngster became the first player to score a double century and a ton in the same game in the history of the event. He reached the milestone on Day 4 of the match between the Rest of India (ROI) and Madhya Pradesh.
Jaiswal scored 213 runs in the first innings for ROI and then backed it up with another ton (144). The 21-year-old batter is the 11th player to achieve the feat in first-class cricket. He is also the second batter to score over 300 runs in an Irani Cup match.
The Mumbaikar recently scored 146 in the match between India A and Bangladesh A in November 2022. He then scored 162 runs for Mumbai against Hyderabad in December.
Talking about the match, ROI scored 484 in 121.3 overs, with Jaiswal’s double century and Abhimanyu Easwaran’s 154. For Madhya Pradesh, Avesh Khan claimed four wickets. Meanwhile, Anubhav Agarwal and Kumar Karthikeya scalped two wickets each.
MP were bowled out for 294 in 112.5 overs, with Yash Dubey scoring 109 off 258 balls. For ROI, Pulkit Narang picked four and Navdeep Saini claimed three wickets. Mukesh Kumar and Saurabh Kumar scalped two and one wickets each, respectively. In their second Innings, ROI was bundled out for 246 in 71.3 overs on Day 4. Jaiswal scored 144 of 157 balls.
Rajasthan Royals retains Yashasvi Jaiswal for IPL 2023
Jaiswal plays for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 21-year-old was bought by the Sanju Samson-led side at the 2020 IPL Player Auction. He was retained by the current runners-up for the upcoming edition of the tournament which will begin on March 31.
The young batter scored 258 runs for Rajasthan Royals’ ten games at a strike rate of 132.99 last year. He has amassed 547 runs in 23 games, including three fifties in IPL so far.
