Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are the most successful side in the Indian Premier League (IPL), along with Mumbai Indians (MI). In 16 years of the cash-rich league, MS Dhoni has held the reins of the side most of the time but in 2022, Ravindra Jadeja got the captaincy mantle and led the team in eight games.
Chennai’s record is formidable as they are the side with the highest victory percentage of 58.22, among the teams that have been active in the league since 2008. Noting Super Kings’ sensational performance, it can be said that it’s never been easy for captains from opposite sides to help their teams get the better of the Men in Yellow. Talking more, let’s know the three most effective skippers against CSK.
Here are the three most successful captains against CSK:

Former Australia skipper Adam Gilchrist captained Deccan Chargers and Punjab Kings (PBKS) during his six-year IPL career. Leading against CSK, he has won six off 10 games. In Chargers’ jersey, he was seen as a skipper for seven games against the Yellow Army and guided his team to victory four times.
From 2011-13, he served PBKS and under his leadership, the team got two wins against CSK off three contests. His victory percentage as a captain is 60% against CSK which makes him the joint-second-most successful skipper against the five-time champions.
2. Gautam Gambhir

Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Gautam Gambhir was seen as a skipper against CSK in 12 games and his victory percentage is 50% with six wins. In the 2010 season, he captained Delhi Capitals (DC), and his maiden win as a skipper against Super Kings came at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
In 2011, he joined Knight Riders as a captain, and during his seven-year stint with the Kolkata-based outlet, he confronted Chennai 11 times as a skipper, in which he led the team to win in six games. In 2012, Gambhir guided KKR to their maiden trophy win, beating CSK in the final at the MS Chidambaram Stadium.

India skipper Rohit Sharma was Mumbai Indians’ (MI) skipper from 2013 to 2023. In those 10 years, he handed five trophies to the Men in Blue. Of five title wins, three came against CSK in the finals. MI became champions for the first time in 2013 under Rohit’s leadership, registering a 23-run win over CSK at the iconic Eden Gardens.
Rohit’s captaincy record against CSK is phenomenal as Mumbai have won 12 off 22 games under him. His captaincy success rate is around 55% against the Men in Yellow. In the MI-CSK rivalry, his captaincy made Mumbai stronger.
