Uttar Pradesh batter Sameer Rizvi was sold for a whopping INR 8.4 Crore to Chennai Super Kings during the IPL 2024 mini auction on Tuesday, December 19 at Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. Rizvi entered the auction with a base price of INR 20 Lakh with Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals showing interest to buy him. It was eventually, CSK who won the bidding war and onboarded the talented 20-year-old.
Rizvi made headlines for his stellar performances in the recent UP T20 League where he hit the most number of sixes for Kanpur Superstars (35). He further scored two breathtaking centuries during the T20 extravaganza along with a half-century. The Meerut-born cricketer finished as the third-highest run scorer of the tournament with 455 runs to his name from ten matches at an average of 50.56 and an incredible strike rate of 188.8.

Following his incredible run during the UP T20 League, Rizvi was called for trials by three franchises which included Punjab Kings. However, he couldn’t appear for the trials due to his commitments with the UP’s Under 23 squad where he rose to fame with a magnificent 91 (65) against Rajasthan in his first game.

He further scored a match-winning 84 off 50 balls in the final of the tournament helping UP with the tournament where he finished as the highest run scorer with two fifties and two hundreds. The six-hitting machine also finished on the top of the list for most maximums clearing the fence on 37 occasions.

Rizvi further put his immaculate hitting prowess on display in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy earlier this season where he smacked 18 sixes. In his short T20 career so far, Rizvi has played 11 matches scoring 295 runs at an average of 49.16 and a strike rate of 134.70.
