Mumbai Indians (MI) did not have a good start to their IPL 2025 campaign, as they lost to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by four wickets in their opening match of the season. It was yet another season where the 5-time champions lost the first match of the league. However, they have what it takes to make a strong comeback in their upcoming matches. The key for MI would be to back players, who can play impactful roles for them.
At the top, MI has the strength of Rohit Sharma, who has been arguably at his best form for a long tim for India, but in the IPL. Similarly, the Mumbai-based franchise has players, who can step up against big teams to have a huge impact. It was evident the way Vignesh Puthur pulled off a great performance when not many knew about him. MI has such players who can surprise the opposition.
Top 3 Players who can be impactful for MI apart from Rohit Sharma
3. Shrijith Krishnan

Shrijith Krishnan is a wicketkeeper-batter, who can play lower down the order. If required, he can be promoted up the order and asked to play cameos. More importantly, the talented player can keep wickets, which can help MI in bringing the right balance to their playing combination.
If Ryan Rickleton doesn’t perform as per the expectations and needs, MI do possess the option of Krishnan as his replacement. The Karnataka cricketer is a fine hitter of the ball as well, who could be handy in the swinging conditions of Wankhede Stadium. Even as a batter, he can play more than handy knocks to ensure a brisk run rate.
2. Robin Minz

Robin Minz is a talented player, who can bat anywhere in the middle and the lower middle order. Robin’s debut did not go well, as he scored 3 runs in 9 balls before getting dismissed in the game against CSK. While it was a failure, Robin can be backed to deliver the goods in the upcoming games.
With time, youngsters like Minz are only likely to get better. If backed well, he can be a solution to MI’s woes in the lower middle order since the exit of Tim David. To have an Indian uncapped batter, who can provide great finishing touches can prove to be vital for the success of the champion side.

1. Bevon Jacobs

Bevon Jacobs proved his worth as a finisher for Canterbury Kings in the New Zealand’s Super Smash 2023/24 season. He had the second-highest strike rate at the death (188.73), only behind Doug Bracewell, and showed his abilities to finish the innings. MI will hope to make his use in the upcoming games.
If Rickleton fails to perform, he could be slotted in the lower middle order. Based on the match situation, Bevon can bat anywhere from numbers 5 to 7. It might also open up options for MI to try different players at the top of the order, which might shape up the careers of upcoming top order batters.
