The runners-up of the previous season of the Indian Premier League, the Sunrisers Hyderabad, announced their list of retentions and released players on October 31, Thursday, ahead of the mega auction of the 2025 edition.

Having endured a turbulent three campaigns from 2021 to 2023 which saw SRH finish eighth, eighth, and 10th, respectively, they bounced back in 2024. An all-guns-blazing approach saw them wreak havoc in IPL 2024, and they were an absolute menace for any of the opposition’s bowlers when on song. The highest record for the largest first innings score was broken not one, but thrice by SRH in IPL 2024.

SRH have always been quite underrated in terms of their subdued fanbase as compared to some of the other franchises, but they have always been rated highly as far as their auction strategy and squad composition is concerned. The two factors were also the main reasons as to why they went on to lift their maiden IPL title in 2016 under the charismatic leadership of David Warner, one of the franchise’s luminaries.

SRH are all set to retain three of their players in the form of dynamic middle-order batter, Heinrich Klaasen, Australian all-rounder, Pat Cummins, and aggressive southpaw, Abhishek Sharma, as per a report from ESPNcricinfo on October 16, 2024. With these three almost confirmed, it remains to be seen the other additions which the franchise make to their roster in the mega auction in November.
