With the introduction of the Impact Player rule in the Indian Premier League (IPL), there have been plenty of high scores in the premier T20 competition. Plenty of records were broken and teams will be keen to go even harder with the bat in the 2025 edition of the tournament. Here we look at how the batting squads shape up for each side and rank them.

Rating IPL 2025 Teams based on their batting strength

10. Lucknow Super Giants (6.5/10)

LSG will rely heavily on their batting in IPL 2025 if they are to lift the coveted silverware this time round. Their core lies in their middle-order, where the side has the likes of Nicholas Pooran, Rishabh Pant and David Miller. The left-handed trio will have to do bulk of the scoring, whereas the top-order batters in the form of Mitchell Marsh and Matthew Breetzke may also be utilized according to the situation alongside youngster Ayush Badoni as well. The lack of a solid top-order pair may cause problems for Pant & Co.

9. Rajasthan Royals (6.5/10)

Rajasthan Royals (RR) have let go Jos Buttler and that is a big dent to their batting lineup. Jaiswal will open the batting with Sanju Samson likely to be his partner. Nitish Rana is expected to be coming in at three. The firepower of Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer will form the middle order. Shubham Dubey and Wanindu Hasaranga can also add value down the order. However, heavy reliance on the top four is a concerning thing for the inaugural champions of the league in the upcoming 2025 edition.

8. Gujarat Titans (7/10)

The biggest plus-point about Gujarat Titans is their opening pair in Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler. However, apart from them, they have the likes of Sherfane Rutherford, Glenn Phillips, and Shahrukh Khan, who are fairly inexperienced in terms of their IPL careers. Sai Sudharsan can play the anchor role, but someone needs to keep firing from the other end, which seems to be missing in their middle order. Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan can play finishers for Gujarat, but a lot seems to be missing from their puzzle of perfect batting combination.

7. Punjab Kings (7/10)

Josh Inglis and Prabhsimran Singh are expected to open the batting for Punjab Kings (PBKS), and the batting order will be followed by Shreyas Iyer, Glenn Maxwell, and Marcus Stoinis. Another key player in their line-up is 2024 hero Shashank Singh. Aaron Hardie, Azmat Omarzai, and Priyansh Arya can be utilized as per the needs of the game. The key to Punjab’s success will depend on the batting form of the Australian duo of Maxwell and Stoinis.

6. Chennai Super Kings (8/10)

MS Dhoni and Ruturaj Gaikwad Source BCCI

Star opener Ruturaj Gaikwad will form the first-choice opening pair with Devon Conway with Rachin Ravindra as another option. Apart from them, Rahul Tripathi and Deepak Hooda are also present in the squad. Later, the CSK camp includes Vijay Shankar, Shivam Dube, Sam Curran, and Ravindra Jadeja as well. The finishing role will be played by none other than MS Dhoni. A lot of all-rounders for the sake of bowling options might hurt CSK a bit, but the way captain Gaikwad plays his cards is something that the fans will be looking most forward to.

5. Delhi Capitals (8/10)

Delhi Capitals (DC) is a slightly stronger squad than the ones discussed above. Jake Fraser-McGurk and Faf du Plessis alongside keeper-batter Abishek Porel will most likely be the top order for the side. KL Rahul has reportedly asked for a middle-order spot, which is likely to be fulfilled. The incoming of Ashutosh Sharma, Tristan Stubbs, and Karun Nair also adds fuel to the top-order fire. Axar Patel can play a dual role in the middle order or the lower order as per the demand of the situation. With Harry Brook withdrawing his name, the batting order feels slightly sluggish.

4. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (8.5/10)

RCB looks among the strongest batting units in the IPL 2025, however, they have a knack of relying too heavily on their top order. This time, though, they have built a solid middle-order to make amends from previous seasons’ mistakes. Apart from their biggest match-winner Virat Kohli, captain Rajat Patidar will have to take the onus upon himself. Phil Salt will also bat at the top, while the middle order will be formed by the likes of Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma, and Krunal Pandya.

3. Kolkata Knight Riders (9/10)

It won’t be wrong in saying that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won the IPL 2024 on the back of their strong batting unit. Well, the unit has bolstered to even further heights this time round, with Quinton de Kock and Ajinkya Rahane coming in. Sunil Narine and Rahmanullah Gurbaz are key names in the top order, whereas Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, and Ramandeep Singh form among the deadliest trio of finishers within the batting set-up for the defending champions.

2. Mumbai Indians (9.5/10)

The five-time champions have the best names in the T20 cricket in the country. Hitman Rohit Sharma, Tilak Varma, and Suryakumar Yadav are the backbone of their line-up, while Ryan Rickelton and Hardik Pandya are to provide the much-needed comfort for the side. Captain Pandya has the flexibility to shift his batting number as per the team’s needs, which is a great sign for Mumbai Indians. Mitchell Santner and Naman Dhir too are handy batting options.

1. Sunrisers Hyderabad (9.5/10)

Whoever saw IPL 2024 will remember the attacking batsmanship shown by Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma at the top order. The opening combo is expected to remain the same, and the latest addition, Ishan Kishan is set to follow. Later, names like Nitish Kumar Reddy, Atharva Taide, and Heinrich Klaasen are not to be missed, while Pat Cummins too has enough prowess to hit the ball out of the park in demanding situations.
