IPL 2025: Punjab Kings announce Shreyas Iyer as captain

On expected lines, Punjab Kings (PBKS) appointed Shreyas Iyer as the captain for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The right-handed batter was roped in by the Punjab-based franchise at the IPL 2025 mega-auction for a whopping sum of INR 26.75 crore.

The right-handed batter led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) commendably in IPL 2024 and helped them win the coveted title after a long wait of 10 years. According to KKR CEO Venky Mysore, the three-time IPL-winning franchise wanted to retain Shreyas for the upcoming season but he insisted on entering the auction to test his market value.

“I am honored that the team has reposed its faith in me. I hope to repay the faith shown by the management to deliver our maiden title,” Shreyas told PBKS after being appointed as the captain.
