South African fast bowler Lizaad Williams is ruled out of the upcoming IPL 2025 due to an injury, and Mumbai Indians have signed his compatriot Corbin Bosch as his replacement. The news of the replacement was confirmed by the franchise on Saturday, March 08.
Bosch, a bowling all-rounder, has represented South Africa (SA) in one Test and two ODIs and has played 86 T20s. The 30-year-old made his international debut in December and was also included in the Proteas’ 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy as a replacement for the injured Anrich Nortje.
Yet to make his IPL debut, Bosch was previously part of the Rajasthan Royals as a net bowler and was signed by the franchise in 2022 as a replacement for Australia’s Nathan Coulter-Nile.
Notably, the five-time champions will open their IPL 2025 campaign against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday, March 23. Hardik Pandya will be seen leading the side, whereas, experienced players in the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, and Suryakumar Yadav also bolster their squad.
Some key additions that the Mumbai-based side made to their squad in the mega auction for the upcoming season include Will Jacks, Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner. The incoming Bosch isn’t certain to be preferred for the Playing XI, however, the southpaw may be utilized as an Impact Player for his fierce batting skills.
