IPL 2025: Mitchell Marsh to play as specialist batter for Lucknow Super Giants

The hype of the IPL has begun and the tournament is set to start on March 22 and will feature some of the best players across the world.

The season also marks the return of Mitchell Marsh to competitive cricket after the all-rounder’s recovery from injury. Notably, the LSG cricketer had undergone a back injury and dysfunction during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, and was subsequently ruled out of the recently concluded Champions Trophy as well. However, the road for his return to professional cricket is now open, only as a batter, though.

The experienced all-rounder won’t be available to ply his trades with the ball for the Lucknow Super Giants in the upcoming IPL season, and has been given the green signal to feature only as a specialist batter. A recent development states that Marsh will be joining the team camp in Lucknow on March 18, where he will also link up with former Australia head coach Justin Langer, who is currently in the LSG set-up as head of the coaching unit, which also includes the likes Zaheer Khan.

Marsh’s IPL journey so far

The Australian international has been involved in the IPL since 2009, and has represented Deccan Chargers, Pune Warriors India, Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rising Pune Supergiants in the past. As a result, LSG becomes his sixth team in the mega tournament. Having played 42 games in the league thus far, he has had 665 runs and 37 wickets under his belt.

Speaking of Lucknow, the team will be playing their first match of the 2025 edition against the Delhi Capitals on March 24, in Visakhapatnam. Their first home game at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow will take place on April 1, where they will be hosting the Punjab Kings.
