IPL 2025: GT vs PBKS, Match 5 – Full highlights, top moments & winner details

IPL 2025: GT vs PBKS, Match 5 – Full highlights, top moments & winner details

The Punjab Kings (PBKS) won Match 5 of IPL 2025 against the Gujarat Titans (GT) by 11 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, March 25. This marked PBKS’s third victory against the 2022 champions.

A boundary-laden knock from Priyansh Arya gave Punjab a flying start. However, Sai Kishore’s twin strikes made it seem as if the GT were back in the game. Kishore got all-rounders Azmatullah Omarzai and Glenn Maxwell dismissed off consecutive balls. However, from that point onwards, it was all about Shreyas Iyer and Shashank Singh.

Iyer’s incredible knock turned the tide in Punjab’s favor, while Shashank’s 16-ball 44-run blitzkrieg was the cherry on the cake. In the end, the latter’s striking left Iyer starved of the strike as he ended up unbeaten on 97. Kishore was the most economical bowler for the hosts, ending with figures of 3/30 in his four-over quota.

Coming to the run chase, the GT openers started off with a bang as Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill combined to accumulate 61 off 35 deliveries. Gill departed just as the power play was coming to an end. Out came wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler, who joined hands with Sudharsan to carry the innings forward.

However, the Titans could not match the required run rate despite a brisk fifty from Buttler, who departed in the 18th over, and a courageous knock by Impact Player Sherfane Rutherford. They eventually fell short, with Arshdeep Singh taking a two-wicket haul.

Key Moments from Match 5 of IPL 2025:

1. Sai Kishore’s twin strikes stall Punjab Kings

After conceding only two runs in his first over, the crafty left-arm spin of Ishore had Azmatullah Omarzai pick out deep midwicket. On the very next delivery, he secured the massive wicket of Glenn Maxwell for a golden duck on the latter’s first game for PBKS after half a decade. The flashy Australian missed a reverse sweep to be struck in front. Had Maxwell chosen to challenge the decision, he would have survived, as ball tracking showed it going over the stumps.

2. Shreyas Iyer lights up Ahmedabad with a dazzling knock

Playing his first game for PBKS, Iyer seemed unfazed and displayed tremendous striking ability during his unbeaten 42-ball stay at the crease. His most productive shot was the pull, off which he notched up 28 runs out of 97. He ended up registering his highest score in the IPL, while was instrumental in guiding his side to a colossal 243.

3. Sai Sudharsan falls as Shashank Singh grabs a pressure catch

It seemed as if Sudharsan would run away with the game after getting to his half-century. However, a superbly timed flick by the southpaw went straight to Shashank at deep backward square.
