Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians posted up 205/5 on the board in Match No. 29 of the IPL 2025 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, against Delhi Capitals on a belter of a batting pitch.

Put in to bat first by Axar Patel, MI got off to a brilliant start with openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton putting on 47 runs in just under five overs. Rohit looked dangerous before Vipraj Nigam trapped him leg-before for 18. Rickelton took the innings forward, smashing 41 off 25 before being bowled by Kuldeep Yadav.

The middle overs saw Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma steady the ship with a solid partnership. The right-handed batter contributed 40 off 28 balls, but couldn’t convert it into a bigger score, falling to Kuldeep. Tilak, however, continued his great form and notched up a 59 from 33 deliveries. He was supported by Naman Dhir, who played a late cameo, remaining unbeaten on 38 off just 17 balls. Their stand helped MI breach the 200-mark.

For Delhi, the spin duo of Kuldeep (2/23) and Vipraj Nigam (2/41) were impressive in the middle overs. However, the death overs exposed DC’s pace attack. Mitchell Starc had a forgettable outing, leaking 43 runs in his three overs, while Mohit Sharma also went for 40. Mukesh Kumar was decent, claiming a wicket but still conceding 38 in four overs.

Despite the absence of vice-captain Faf du Plessis due to injury, the side will be banking on their batters to chase down this total. KL Rahul, who is expected to open in Faf’s absence, will play a crucial role alongside the likes of Jake Fraser-McGurk, Tristan Stubbs, and skipper Axar Patel himself. Meanwhile, Mumbai will be quietly confident. Though their campaign hasn’t gone to plan with just one win in five matches before this, they’ve posted a total that their bowling line-up, featuring Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, and Mitchell Santner, will back themselves to defend.
