Digvesh Singh Rathi, Bowler, Lucknow Super Giants has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated One Demerit Point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Punjab Kings at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Tuesday.
Digvesh Singh admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.
The incident unfolded during the third over of the chase, as Punjab were chasing the 172-run target set by the hosts Luckow in Match 14 of the ongoing IPL 2025. On the fifth ball of the over, Rathi got Priyansh Arya miscue one in the air, as Shardul Thakur completed a simple catch in the end. His gesture towards the batter to hand a send-off was found as an inappropriate one, attracting a fine and a demerit point penalty as well.
Rathi took another wicket during his final spell, this time sending the other opener Prabhsimran Singh, thereby breaking the 84-run partnership between him and Shreyas Iyer. However, these were the only two wickets lost by Punjab, as they won the game by eight wickets and 22 balls to spare.
