With the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Ravichandran Ashwin has gone back to his original side, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after a gap of nine years. Having made his debut with the franchise with the side in 2009, his name became synonymous with the franchise, and being a localite, the cricketer and his fans felt an instant connect of representing a Chennai-based team.
Throwing light on how it feels to be back, Ashwin recently appeared on a panel discussion where the veteran cricketer opened up on his emotional connect with CSK and its fans in the city of Chennai. Furthermore, he also opened up on the then team co-owner N. Srinivasan. Most importantly, Ashwin also spoke on what it means to have a reunion of sorts with the legendary MS Dhoni.
“There’s been a lot that’s run under the, you know, there’s been a lot that’s gone through in our lives. Everybody’s individual lives. He (MS Dhoni) has always wanted to come back to CSK ever since that episode. He came back to CSK, won a title the first year. Mr. Srinivasan has come a long way. The man has done so much for cricket and cricketers, and now his health has suffered a wee bit. I meet him now and then,” Ashwin told Revsportz.
“It is a totally an emotional connect for me and the best part is I never thought my daughters would be seeing me in those colours because those were memorable days for me. To see me wear the yellow and come back and play in front of my home ground should be a matter of pride for all my entire family, my parents, my kids, my wife, everybody put together,” he added.

Rajasthan Royals was like family: Ashwin
Though Ashwin feels glad to make a comeback with the Super Kings, he also brought up how much he will miss some people in the Rajasthan Royals, which he represented for the previous three editions. The off-spinner also mentioned how much he loved playing for the two-time IPL finalists.
“But all said and done, I must confess that I’ve gone around the park a bit. I played for a few teams and I will miss the Rajasthan Royals (RR). It was home for me. It was like family. That’s a team I absolutely love playing for. I will miss a lot of people there. I will miss the team, great bond. You know everybody, every one of those people,” the 38-year-old concluded.
