IPL 2025: Ashish Nehra, Vikram Solanki likely to continue at Gujarat Titans

Head coach Ashish Nehra and Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki are expected to continue at Gujarat Titans for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. As per reports, Torrent Pharma, an Ahmedabad-based company, is set to acquire a majority stake in the franchise. Amidst the move, multiple changes were expected, including the change in coaching personnel. However, it has emerged that even if the deal goes through, Nehra and Solanki will remain in charge for the 2025 edition.

Notably, Nehra’s contract with the franchise came to an end after the last edition of the cash-rich league. Since then, it was reported that multiple franchises have reached out to him for his service but the former cricketer has decided to continue with Gujarat. Under his guidance, Gujarat won the championship in their maiden season in 2022 and finished runners-up in 2023. The 2024 edition didn’t go well after Hardik Pandya’s departure to Mumbai Indians, as they would now look forward to rebuild the squad in the upcoming mega-auction.

Meanwhile, with Nehra and Solanki, the rest of the Gujarat coaching staff is also likely to continue. However, Gary Kirsten, who served as the batting coach previously, has joined the Pakistan team and the franchise will look forward to signing his replacement. Also, a few of Gujarat’s first-choice players are in talks with other franchises over a potential move in the mega-auction.

BCCI to announce retention rules soon

As per Cricbuzz, BCCI are set to announce the retention rules soon. As things stand, they are likely to allow each franchise to retain five players – three Indian and two foreigners. There have been reports on the provision of the Right To Match (RTM) cards but BCCI scraped it ahead of the 2022 mega-auction and it is likely to be the same this year as well. BCCI’s apex council met online on Wednesday, September 25 but there was no discussion regarding the retention policy.
