Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja has given his prediction for the four possible retentions that Chennai Super Kings could make ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. Recently, the IPL released a set of rules announcing the regulations in place for the upcoming auction and the season.
As per the rules, a franchise can retain a maximum of six players either by direct retention, Right to Match card, or a combination of both, with the teams retaining a maximum of five capped players, including both Indian and foreign, and a maximum two uncapped players.
Ahead of the auction, Jadeja opined that CSK will most definitely be retaining MS Dhoni, and will follow it up by retaining their skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja.
“One is MS Dhoni for sure. There is no doubt about that because firstly he has become an uncapped player now and he has shown for so many years that he doesn’t desire to be No. 1 or No. 2 to make the team. So there is no doubt at that value,” Jadeja said on JioCinema. “Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad had a good year, so you will want to keep him as well. You cannot leave Ravindra, I am not talking about Rachin, I am talking about Jadeja. I feel these three are perfect for them.”
You would not want to leave Pathirana: Ajay Jadeja
As for the last retention, Jadeja opted with ace Sri Lanka pacer Matheesha Pathirana. He opined that Pathirana is a player that CSK cannot afford to let go of. He opined that Dhoni, Gaikwad, Jadeja, and Pathirana will be the four retentions and the franchise will keep two RTMs.
“You would not want to leave Pathirana. I see him as one of the overseas players. You need to keep players not because of the money, but their style. So I feel these four will be their main players and they will keep two RTMs,” Jadeja said.
