The mega auction of the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2025 is rapidly approaching. The marquee event is all set to be held on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah. With the new season of the IPL approaching, the 10 franchises will hope to give it their best shot in hopes of roping in the best players in their squad.
It is worth noting that around 1,574 players will be a part of the auction pool ahead of the IPL 2025, and there will be several big names involved as well. This year’s auction is going to be an exciting one as many unexpected names from the list were released and retained for the 2025 edition.

3. Mitchell Starc
Ace Australia pacer Mitchell Starc was one of the surprising exclusions from the retention lists ahead of the IPL mega auction. Starc was the costliest player of the IPL 2024 auction as Kolkata Knight Riders swooped in his services for a whopping INR 24.75 crore.
However, despite winning the title with KKR, Starc was released by the franchise ahead of the mega auction. His release means that Starc will be in the auction pool, considering his repertoire in world cricket. Many franchises would look to break the bank for Starc.
It is worth noting that the 34-year-old has played 40 matches in the IPL so far and has managed to take 51 wickets with an economy of 8.21. To secure his services, the likes of Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru could rope Starc’s services as the side have a huge purse ahead of the auction.

2. KL Rahul
Star India batter KL Rahul could be another player to be on the list of stars who would break the all-time highest record in the IPL auction. KL Rahul had been leading Lucknow Super Giants since the IPL 2022, but he was released after a subpar IPL 2024 season.
It is worth noting that KL Rahul has played 132 matches in the IPL so far and has managed to score 4,683 runs and has maintained an average of 45.47 runs. Rahul has missed out on his form in the previous few seasons, but any franchise would hope that he can get back to his best.
The star batter led LSG to the IPL playoffs in 2022 and 2023 but failed to do so in 2024. There have been reports of RCB looking to rope in Rahul, and they would be more than happy to break the bank for the ace batter.
1. Rishabh Pant
Star India wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant could be another player for whom the teams could break the bank. Pant has been one of the biggest stars in the sport and has been leading Delhi Capitals. However, he was released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Being one of the biggest players in world cricket, it is expected that Pant will attract a huge price in the mega auction. There have been reports that Chennai Super Kings are looking to rope in the star batter, and they could go on to break the 24.75 crore record for him.
It is worth noting that Pant has played 111 IPL matches so far, and he has managed to score 3,284 runs to his name. He maintains an average of 35.31 runs, and his signing could benefit a franchise and make quite the impact.
