The 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction is all set to take place on December 19 in Dubai, with Mallika Sagar as auctioneer. It will mark the first instance of the IPL auction taking place outside India. This auction, the 17th in the tournament, follows the previous one held in December 2022.
The final IPL auction pool comprises a total of 333 players, with 77 slots available for the 10 franchises to fill. Among these, 30 slots are reserved for overseas players. The pool consists of 214 Indian players and 119 overseas players, including two from Associate nations. Notably, there are 116 capped players and 215 uncapped players.
A standout among the shortlisted players is 17-year-old Kwena Maphaka from South Africa, the youngest cricketer in contention. On the other hand, Afghanistan’s 38-year-old all-rounder Mohammad Nabi holds the distinction of being the oldest player in the auction shortlist.
Anticipation is high as three top ODI World Cup-winning Australian players – Travis Head, Mitchell Starc, and Pat Cummins have signed up for the auction. Additionally, teams are expected to vie for promising young talents Rachin Ravindra from New Zealand and Azmatullah Omarzai from Afghanistan, both of whom impressed in the recently concluded marquee event in India.
