In a development bound to excite Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) fans, Shreyas Iyer is anticipated to join the team’s camp in Kolkata shortly. The talented cricketer had raised concerns over a back issue during the Ranji Trophy final clash against Vidarbha, which concluded recently.
The KKR skipper, who sat out the previous season due to a back injury, was sidelined from the field during the final’s last two days. Despite this setback, Iyer’s blistering knock of 95 runs off 111 balls in Mumbai’s second innings showcased his prowess.
Reports suggest that Iyer’s condition has significantly improved, and he is primed to reunite with his teammates at the franchise. The camp, slated to kick off on Friday, will commence with a practice session at the iconic Eden Gardens.
While a video of Iyer celebrating Mumbai’s 42nd Ranji title at the Wankhede Stadium circulated widely on social media, the KKR camp has remained mum on his fitness status.
“He will be available from the first match itself. As of now, there’s nothing to worry about. His staying off the field in the Ranji final was more of a precautionary measure,” a source told The Telegraph assuring fans.

Notably, Iyer will not seek consultation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. Since he is no longer a contracted player of the BCCI, accessing NCA facilities for free necessitates a recommendation through his state association.
Iyer’s journey has seen its share of challenges, including exclusion from the Test squad and missing crucial matches due to back-related discomfort. Despite these setbacks, his commitment to the game remains unwavering.
The much-awaited IPL 2024 is all set to kick off on March 22nd with a match between Thala MSD’s Chennai Super Kings and Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Meanwhile, Kolkata are poised to begin their IPL 2024 journey against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the iconic Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata.
