The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have suffered a significant setback as their Indian pacer Shivam Mavi has been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2024 season due to an injury. Mavi, who was roped in by LSG for a hefty sum of INR 6.4 crore during the IPL 2024 auction, was expected to play a crucial role in the team’s bowling attack.
Mavi’s injury has dealt a severe blow to LSG, who were banking on the young pacer to strengthen their bowling unit. The Uttar Pradesh-born cricketer had not played a single game in the previous IPL season while representing the Gujarat Titans (GT), who went on to reach the final. He was planning for a fresh start upon his arrival in LSG, but the injury has paused his plans for the time being.

I will miss the tournament a lot: Shivam Mavi
In a video released by LSG on their official social media handle, Mavi revealed that he was carrying an injury even before joining the team camp, but he was hopeful of playing matches and contributing to the team’s success. Unfortunately, the injury has now forced him to leave the camp and start his rehabilitation process.
“I will miss [the tournament] a lot. I had come here after an injury and had thought I would play matches for my team and do well. But unfortunately, I will have to leave because I have suffered an injury,” Mavi said in the video.
Mavi, who last played a competitive match in August 2023, emphasized the importance of mental strength for a cricketer during times of injury. “A cricketer has to be mentally strong for this. If you have an injury, you need to see what you have to do to make a comeback, what things you need to take care of,” he further added.
“We got a very good team, I will keep cheering for the team and hopefully, we will win,” he concluded.

This is the third instance where LSG has found one of their players being forced to pull out of the IPL 2024 season. The franchise initially lost the services of Mark Wood due to workload management, subsequently replacing him with Shamar Joseph. David Willey’s departure further strained LSG’s resources, prompting them to include Matt Henry as the English all-rounder’s replacement. The team hasn’t announced any replacement for Mavi so far.
LSG find themselves in fourth position on the points table with two wins from three games. They will next play against Gujarat Titans at home on 7th April.
