Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Riyan Parag shared a poignant moment with his mother following his side’s six-wicket win over Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2024 held at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on April 1. This was RR’s third successive win in the ongoing tournament. MI, on the other side, suffered defeats in all the three games they have played thus far.

Chasing a below-par target of 126, Parag scored an unbeaten 54 off 39 deliveries, including five boundaries and three maximums The 22-year-old has now scored 181 runs at a strike rate of over 160, with two fifties. He is tied with Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s star batter Virat Kohli in the IPL 2024 Orange Cap list.

RR took to the microblogging platform X and shared a video of Parag and his mother sharing a hug and then she kissed his forehead. She then placed the Orange Cap on the youngster’s head. “No one loves you like your mom does,” the franchise captioned the post.

Boult, Chahal, Parag star as RR beat MI

Mumbai Indians suffered a batting collapse from the start of the first innings after being invited to bat first. Trent Boult provided significant breakthroughs for RR, removing Rohit Sharma, Naman Dhir, and Dewald Brevis all for golden ducks. MI captain Hardik Pandya (34) and Tilak Varma (32) put up 56 runs off 36 balls for the fifth wicket. However, Yuzvendra Chahal and Nadre Burger claimed three and two wickets, respectively, to limit the five-time champions by a below-par 125 runs.

South African teenager Kwena Maphaka made a quick impact in the second innings, dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal for 10 in the first over. Meanwhile, Aakash Madhwal helped his side make a fairly good fist as he got the wickets of captain Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler and R Ashwin. However, Riyan struck a half-century  to help RR chase the target with 27 balls to spare.
