The Delhi Capitals (DC) have been dealt a major setback ahead of their crucial Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on May 12th in Bengaluru. Their captain and star player, Rishabh Pant, has been suspended for one match due to the team’s slow over-rate in their previous game against Rajasthan Royals on May 07.
This was the third time this season that DC were found guilty of maintaining a slow over rate, violating the IPL’s Code of Conduct. As per the rules, Pant was fined a hefty sum of INR 30 lakh and banned for one match. The rest of the playing XI, including the impact player, faced lesser fines. The Delhi-based franchise appealed the decision, but the BCCI Ombudsman upheld the Match Referee’s ruling after a virtual hearing, making Pant’s suspension final and binding.
