Punjab Kings hosted Rajasthan Royals in the 27th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024. Both teams played tied at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. The visiting skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and asked the Kings to bat first.
Batting first, Punjab batters struggled against the RR bowling attack as there was only one 30+ individual knock, scored by impact player Ashutosh Sharma, who scored 31 runs off just 16 balls, with one four and 3 sixes in the death overs.
Besides Ashutosh, wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma and Englishman Liam Livingstone scored 29 and 21 runs, respectively. On the back of these knocks, the hosts managed to post a total of 147 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Avesh Khan and Keshav Maharaj scalped 2 wickets each for RR, alongside one wicket each bagged by Trent Boult, Kuldeep Sen, and Yuzvendra Chahal.

While chasing the target, RR’s opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tanush Kotian provided a steady start and stitched 56 runs for the first wicket in 8.2 overs. Jaiswal departed at for 39 runs off 28 balls, which included a quartet of boundaries.
Kotian and Riyan Parag also scored 24 and 23 runs, respectively. Eventually, Rajasthan Royals chased down the total in 19.5 overs, scoring 152 runs for the loss of 7 wickets and won the match by 3 wickets, with Player of the Match Shimron Hetmyer (27* off 10) hitting the winning runs.
RR strengthen their top spot in the points table
With this win over Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals have strengthened their position at the top spot, with 5 wins in the 6 matches so far. On the other hand, Punjab faced their fourth defeat in the tournament in the sixth match of their campaign. After losing to RR, Punjab Kings faced a loss in their net run rate; however, they are still in the eighth spot of the points table of the tournament.

Most Runs in IPL 2024:
Sanju Samson overtook Shubman Gill for third spot in the Orange Cap list of the ongoing season. Riyan Parag too, ensured he remained at the second spot with his 23-run stay at the crease. Apart from star batter Virat Kohli topping the charts yet again, the fourth and fifth spot are occupied by GT’s Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, respectively.

Most Wickets in IPL 2024:
Yuzvendra Chahal continued his fantastic run in the league. In the match against Punjab, the spinner got a wicket in his very first over, and completed his eleventh wicket to climb at the top spot, snatching the Purple Cap from Mumbai Indians’ Jasprit Bumrah.
