Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants played their final game of the season with the visiting side needing a huge miracle to be in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs. Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bowl first as Jasprit Bumrah missed the game.

Lucknow Super Giants ended with 214 runs on the board from their 20 overs. Nicholas Pooran was the lead scorer with 75 runs from 29 balls with 5 fours and 8 sixes. KL Rahul scored a sedate 55 which came off 41 balls. Nuwan Thushara and Piyush Chawla were the best bowlers for MI with 3 wickets each.

Mumbai Indians: 50 runs off 5.4 overs      

Dewald Brevis came out to bat with Rohit Sharma in pursuit of the mammoth 215 runs needed to win. The former MI skipper made his intentions clear with some aggressive shots right from the start.

Powerplay: Overs 0.1 to 6 (Mandatory – 54/0)

Mumbai Indians playing their final game of the season wanted to send their fans home happy. Despite a brief rain delay there was no stopping Rohit Sharma who took the attack to the opposition with Dewald Brevis playing perfect foil.

Half-Century: Rohit Sharma from 28 balls

With a straight six off Mohsin Khan, the former MI skipper got yet another fifty in the Mumbai Indians colours. It was an innings of statement with the T20 World Cup around the corner.

Mumbai Indians: First Strategic time-out (88/1 from 8.4 overs)

Dewald Brevis was the first wicket to go when he mistimed a full toss from Naveen-ul-Haq to be caught by Krunal Pandya. With Rohit Sharma going well at one end the onus was on the youngster to keep the runs flowing. Suryakumar Yadav came out to bat when the umpires halted play for the first time-out.

Mumbai Indians: 100 runs from 11.3 overs

Lucknow Super Giants came back into the contest with the wickets of Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma. Krunal Pandya saw Yadav sweep one in the air only for Ravi Bishnoi to take a splendid catch. Rohit Sharma then fell to Bishnoi caught by Mohsin Khan for 68 runs to stun the home fans.

Mumbai Indians: Second Strategic time-out (119/4 from 14 overs)

Hardik Pandya’s bad season finally ended when the Mumbai Indians skipper was out for 16 caught by Naveen-ul-Haq off Mohsin Khan. Mumbai Indians still needed 96 runs off 6 overs to win the game and end the season on a high.

Mumbai Indians: 150 runs from 17.1 overs

The regular fall of wickets dented Mumbai Indians’ run chase. Naman Dhir came out with aggressive intent and tried to stage a fight back. The tight bowling from LSG though saw the MI batters struggle to keep the boundaries flowing.

End of the Match: Mumbai Indians -196/6 from 20 overs

The season for Mumbai Indians ended the same way it began. Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir provided some light relief with the bat. The rest of the Mumbai Indians batters suffered and for the second time in the history of the franchise they have finished bottom of the table.
