SRH vs PBKS. (Source -IPL/BCCI)
In match 69 of the ongoing Indian Premier League, Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) season was over as they were playing for pride, while Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) needed to win this match to have a chance at finishing in second place in the IPL 2024 points table.
In the penultimate league stage match of IPL 2024, SRH broke quite a few batting records, but not before losing the toss and having to bowl first. Punjab Kings were bolstered by their top three of Prabhsimran Singh(71 off 45), Atharva Taide(46 off 27) and Rilee Rossouw(49 off 24). Stand-in skipper Jitesh Sharma(32* off 15) played a cameo that pushed PBKS to a total that would require SRH to pull off a record chase.
SRH lost Travis Head to the first ball of the innings but that did not deter them. Abhishek Sharma(66 off 28) went about business as usual while receiving support from Rahul Tripathi(33 off 18) and Nitish Kumar Reddy(37 off 25). Once Abhishek got out near the halfway mark, Heinrich Klaasen(42 off 26) joined in to complete any formalities that may have been remaining. Shashank Singh did pick up the wicket off Abhishek Sharma with the first ball he bowled in his IPL career.
