IPL 2024: Match 13, DC vs CSK Match Preview (Source: Twitter)
Delhi Capitals will look to win their first match in the IPL 2024 when they take on an in-form Chennai Super Kings at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, March 31.
The Capitals have started their campaign with a couple of losses. They kicked it off with a four-wicket loss against Punjab Kings in what was the first IPL game in Mullanpur. On the back of Impact Player Abhishek Porel’s blitzkrieg at the end, Delhi posted 174/9 after their frontline batters struggled on a tricky surface. In reply, Sam Curran’s solid half-century helped the Kings reach the target with four balls to spare.
In their second game, Delhi had Rajasthan Royals in a spot of bother at 36/3 in the eighth over after winning the toss and opting to bowl first. However, a sparkling knock of 84 not out off 45 balls from Riyan Parag helped the first-ever IPL champions post a solid total of 185/5. The Capitals got off to a fine start after the Australian duo of David Warner and Mitchell Marsh came out all guns blazing. However, they lost Marsh and Ricky Bhui in the fourth over. Delhi captain Rishabh Pant played a scratchy knock of 28 off 26 balls and Tristan Stubbs’ unbeaten 23-ball 44 wasn’t enough to take them home. The host eventually won the game by 12 runs.
Chennai won the title last year for a record-equalling fifth time under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. Ahead of IPL 2024, the stalwart handed captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has led the team to wins in the first two games. The Super Kings are placed on the top of the table and will look to extend their winning streak.
CSK played in the season opener against Royal Challenges Bengaluru. The Men in Yellow restricted the famed Bengaluru batting to 173/6 in their 20 overs. Rachin Ravindra played a blinder of a knock at the top of the order as he smashed 37 off just 15 balls. Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja put the finishing touches as the defending champions won by six wickets with eight balls to spare.
Chennai’s next game was against Gujarat Titans, the team they defeated in the summit clash last year. Gujarat’s new skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to field first. Ravindra gave his team another blistering start as he slammed 46 off just 20 balls. Dube batted at No. 4 and scored his seventh IPL fifty as the Super Kings posted a mammoth 206/6. The Titans needed Shubman to play a special knock but the talented batter was dismissed in the third over. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals for the Titans as Chennai won by 63 runs, the biggest in terms of runs thus far in IPL 2024.
This is going to be Delhi’s first home game of the season and also Chennai’s first away game. Pant will have to inspire his troops as the Super Kings are looking like a well-oiled machine that knows the recipe to success. CSK have are undefeated in their last four encounters against the Capitals.

Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium Pitch Report and Conditions
Delhi Capitals decided to play their first couple of home games in Visakhapatnam. The tickets for the match have been sold out in minutes, something that isn’t an anomaly in matches involving the Super Kings. Limited-overs matches have seen some high scores at this venue as the pitches have been conducive to strokeplay.
Last year in November, this stadium hosted a T20I between India and Australia. The tourists posted 208/3 before India chased it down in 19.5 overs with two wickets to spare. India’s 209/8 is also the highest total at this venue. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka registered the lowest T20I total at this venue of 82 in 2016. 13 IPL games have been played in Visakhapatnam. Seven of those have been won by chasing teams. The average first-innings score is 131. The highest run-chase at this ground is 173.
