The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah was present at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, March 24 to witness the Gujarat Titans (GT) versus Mumbai Indians (MI) encounter in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
The game was a thriller encounter, with Hardik Pandya returning to Mumbai as their skipper, while Gujarat were led by an amateur captain in Shubman Gill. The game went down to the wire, as another last-ball thriller was witnessed in the coveted tournament.
After the match, in which Gujarat won by six runs, Shah came down to the ground to greet the players. Ishan Kishan, who represents Mumbai in the cash-rich league, was seen talking to the 35-year-old and both of them sported smiles. The video of both having a chatter was quick to be noticed by the fans, and went instantly viral across social media platforms.

Interestingly, Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were left out of the BCCI central contracts list last month after they disobeyed specific instructions from the board to participate in the Ranji Trophy 2024. After the announcement of the central contracts, Shreyas returned to his domestic side, Mumbai, and played in the semifinals and final. In the summit clash against Vidarbha, he scored 95 off just 111 balls at the Wankhede Stadium and helped Mumbai win a record-extending 42nd Ranji Trophy title. However, Kishan’s state side, Jharkhand, didn’t make it beyond the group stage and the southpaw didn’t play a single match in the entire campaign.

Shreyas played in the first two Test matches against England before being omitted from the squad for the final three games. Kishan, on the other hand, travelled with the Indian team on the tour to South Africa but returned midway through the campaign citing ‘personal reasons’. Both Shreyas and Kishan failed to get off the mark in their respective first games in IPL 2024.
Gujarat Titans win last-over thriller against Mumbai Indians
Hardik Pandya’s homecoming wasn’t really special, as his side had to suffer an agonising six-run defeat on Sunday against a disciplined Gujarat side. The Baroda all-rounder won the toss and opted to bowl first before the Titans huffed and puffed their way to 168/6 in their 20 overs on a tricky pitch. Jasprit Bumrah was in scintillating form as he finished with figures of 3/14 from his four overs. South African pace sensation Gerald Coetzee also did well on his IPL debut as he bagged a couple.
In reply, Mumbai got off to a disappointing start as they lost Kishan in the first over. Former MI skipper Rohit Sharma hit seven fours and a six during his innings of 43 off 29 balls. The young trio of Naman Dhir, Dewald Brevis, and Tilak Varma also looked good during the run chase, but they threw their wickets at the wrong time. In the end, 19 runs were required off the final over, with Umesh Yadav bowling to Hardik. The Mumbai captain hit a six and a four before the right-arm seamer bounced back with two consecutive wickets. The last two balls yielded just a couple of runs as the hosts won the riveting affair by six runs.
