Hardik Pandya and Mark Boucher
Mumbai Indians’ (MI) newly appointed captain Hardik Pandya opens up on the franchise’s captaincy change controversy ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League. The 30-year-old was returned to his previous team following a high-profile trade from 2022 champions Gujarat Titans and was subsequently named captain, succeeding Rohit Sharma. The five-time champions will kick-start their IPL campaign against Hardik’s previous team on March 24 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
While speaking during the pre-season press conference before the commencement of the tournament, Hardik was asked about his conversation with Rohit since returning to MI. To which, the all-rounder stated that they had not had a proper conversation since the India captain had been travelling. Notably, this was Hardik’s first press conference along with head coach Mark Boucher after taking over the leadership role.
“I know Rohit Sharma’s hand will be on my shoulder throughout the season. I have played for close to ten years under his captaincy, no awkwardness,” said Hardik.
“Have you had a chat with Rohit Sharma since taking over as captain of MI?” a media correspondent asked. He replied, “Yes and No. He has been travelling non-stop.”
Question – have you had a word with Rohit Sharma since becoming MI captain?
Hardik Pandya – Yes and a No as well. He has been travelling non-stop. pic.twitter.com/8tyu4QQcUW
