IPL 2024: Fans hurl abuses at Chennai Super Kings allrounder Shivam Dube after his lacklustre batting against Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Popular franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defied all the odds tonight to miraculously secure a playoffs berth in the ongoing IPL 2024 after defeating the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Notably, in match 68 of the mega cricket extravaganza, RCB needed to their last league stage game by at least a margin of 18 runs, which they successfully executed.

After winning the toss, CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad invited the hosts to bat first. The decision seemed to have backfired as openers Virat Kohli and captain Faf du Plessis gave Bengaluru a solid start. Thereafter, other batters chipped in with blazing cameos en route to a mammoth total of 218 runs. In reply, CSK had a horrid start as Gaikwad got out on the first ball of the innings. Similarly, under run-chase pressure, the visitors kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

This sudden batting collapse meant that CSK allrounder Shivam Dube’s mettle would be tested in the middle and his job would have been to take the game deep for a winning cause. However, this wasn’t meant to be as the lanky allrounder failed to get going and threw his wicket cheaply while not scoring at a brisk pace as the run rate kept climbing up. This added extra pressure on the lower middle order and eventually, CSK succumbed to it.

This heartbreaking loss did not go down well with Chennai Super Kings’ fans as they started a rant which also included the use of some sanguine language on a recent post that Shivam Dube had earlier posted in appreciation of fans’s unwavering support in the IPL 2024 so far.

“Complete team effort. 2 more points. Thanks, as always, for the support Chennai,” Dube’s Instagram post read.

Some fans blamed his lack of intent to go big when it mattered the most to some fans who hurled abuses at Dube for a lethargic (7 off 15 balls) knock. Moreover, another fan blamed him for getting the good-looking Rachin Ravindra which was believed to be a massive turning point in the game. Another fan came up with a bizarre debate that probably Shivam Dube was playing for RCB as their Impact player which led the team down.

Meanwhile, speaking of the fag end of the IPL 2024 clash between RCB and CSK played at the renowned MA Chidambaram Stadium in Bengaluru, the hosts secured their sixth win on the trot in what was a miraculous comeback trail while CSK failed to pick the most important win to stay relevant in the tournament. As a result, after Chennai slumped to another defeat and got ousted, cricket fans were left pondering whether the legendary batter and stumper MS Dhoni would hang his boots. Notably, in the last six years, fans were often haunted by the possibility of never seeing their beloved legend take the field for CSK again in India’s biggest cricket festival.
