Delhi Capitals clinched a comprehensive 19-run victory over the Lucknow Super Giants, thanks to a balanced team performance and some standout individual efforts in Match 64 of IPL 2024.

Batting first, Delhi Capitals posted an imposing total of 208 for 4 in their 20 overs. Despite losing Jake Fraser-McGurk for a duck in the first over to Arshad Khan, Abishek Porel and Shai Hope steadied the innings with a solid partnership. Porel was particularly aggressive, scoring 58 off 33 balls, including 4 fours and 5 sixes, before falling to Naveen-ul-Haq. Hope contributed a steady 38 off 27 balls, maintaining a strike rate of 140.74.

Captain Rishabh Pant continued the momentum with a brisk 33 off 23 balls before being dismissed by Naveen-ul-Haq, who was the pick of the bowlers for Lucknow with figures of 4-0-51-2. The real star with the bat, however, was Tristan Stubbs, who played a scintillating knock, remaining unbeaten on 57 off just 25 balls, hitting three boundaries and four sixes. Axar Patel added a quickfire 14 off 10 balls to ensure Delhi surpassed the 200-run mark.

In response, Lucknow Super Giants struggled from the outset. Ishant Sharma struck early, dismissing captain KL Rahul for 5 and Quinton de Kock for 12, leaving Lucknow reeling at 24 for 2. Marcus Stoinis briefly resisted with 5 off 7 balls before falling to Axar Patel, and Deepak Hooda was trapped lbw by Ishant for a duck.

Nicholas Pooran provided some hope with a blistering 61 off 27 balls, featuring six sixes, but he lacked support from the other end. Ayush Badoni and Krunal Pandya could not convert their starts into substantial scores. The lower order showed some fight, particularly Arshad Khan, who scored a valiant 58 not out off 33 balls, but the target proved too steep.

Delhi’s bowlers maintained discipline, with Ishant Sharma (4-0-34-3) and Mukesh Kumar (4-0-33-1) leading the charge. Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel also chipped in with crucial wickets, each taking one apiece. Tristan Stubbs, adding to his batting heroics, contributed with the ball, claiming one wicket for just four runs in his single over.

With this win DC move to fifth on the points table with 14 points in 14 matches and still have an outside chance if CSK and SRH lose by huge margins.
