The Indian Premier League 2024 season has come to an end and it was yet another extraordinary tournament with ten of the best franchises consisting of the best players competing to win the coveted championship. Over the course of the 74 matches, the fans were treated to some amazing performances and got some thrilling matches that will go down in history.
Prior to the start of the tournament, the ten franchises got together to buy the top players during the IPL 2024 Auction. But some of the purchases did not exactly pan out like they should have as the players could not live up to their price tags.
Here are the 5 players who could not justify their price tags:

There was surely a lot of chatter when Rilee Rossouw went unsold during the first round of the auctions. Later on, there was a bidding war between Delhi Capitals and the Punjab Kings for the South African batter but ultimately the latter won the bid as they bought the player for a whopping INR 8 Crores. However, it was a poor start to the season for him once he was introduced as he could not muster any significant score. The batter did find form later on in the final three games of the tournament but it was a little too late.

Before the Indian Premier League 2024 Auctions, all eyes were on Sameer Rizvi. The batter was doing the talking with his bat in the domestic circuit and earned his reward after being purchased by the Chennai Super Kings for a mammoth INR 8 Crores. Even though he was starting the games for the franchise, he did not have any significant contribution and was later dropped from the line-up. The Uttar Pradesh batter only managed 51 runs across the eight matches he started in the tournament which is surely a poor return on the investment.

Another Chennai Super Kings batter makes the list as the franchise decided to splash the cash on Daryl Mitchell during the Indian Premier League 2024 Auctions. The New Zealand batter’s exploits for his national team saw him earn a massive contract of INR 14 Crores. But the batter could not bring the same form for which he was bought into the tournament and struggled a bit initially. He played all fourteen games in the tournament and despite registering two fifties, it was an ordinary campaign for the price the franchise had to pay to purchase him.
2. Spencer Johnson

With Mohammed Shami being ruled out of the tournament because of a long-term injury, Gujarat Titans had to find a good quality pacer. They wanted to go all-in for Mitchell Starc but backed out after giving a good fight to KKR. The franchise ultimately splashed the cash on another Australian pacer, Spencer Johnson for INR 10 Crores. But it turned out to be a poor purchase as the pacer got hit for runs all over the park and surely could not live up to the price tag. He managed to scalp only four wickets across the five games he played in the tournament at a poor economy of 9.44.

It was a big surprise when Royal Challengers Bengaluru decided to release most of their bowlers as they hoped for a new bowling attack for the tournament. They had the funds to buy some of the marquee players and gave a good fight to sign Australia captain Pat Cummins but had to leave when the price became a little high. They ultimately bought West Indies pacer Alzaari Joseph for a whopping INR 11.50 Crores. But it was a poor investment as the speedster leaked runs as he managed only one wicket across the three games he played in the competition at a poor economy of 11.90.
