The IPL 2024 saw a big imbalance between bat and ball. The batters enjoyed batting in the middle. But this bowlers were not too pleased with the nature of the wickets. The impact player rule did not help them either as they enabled the batters to bat a bit freely. It meant that a lot of high scoring games were possible in the season.
The focus was hence on the bowlers who could do well. Only a few of them could do extremely well. Some of the players who showed poor form were replaced by others. Some others were given a longer rope as the management backed them to deliver the goods. In the process, some of the players who deserved to be in the XI, did not get a chance to play.
Here are some of the players who deserved to be in the starting XI but did not get to play a game:
5. Kyle Mayers

Kyle Mayers was one of the best batters for LSG in the IPL 2023. Yet, he could not get to play a game for LSG in 2024. The fact that Quinton De Kock was not in a good form ahead of the league and got the backing of the management was bizarre. Someone like Mayers could not even get a game and warmed the bench for the entire season.
4. Glenn Phillips

For the quality of skill sets he possessed and the performances he could give, Glenn Phillips was too good to be benched for the entire season. At his cost, some players who did not perform well like Marco Jansen and Aiden Markram were asked to deliver the goods. Phillips could bat, bowl, field, and even keep th wickets if required. To see him not get a game was bad.
3. Fazalhaq Farooqi

SRH had high quality overseas players. Most of them delivered with the bat. But they lacked in bowling, especially with the new ball. There was someone who could fill the void of SRH. Fazalhaq Farooqi with his ability to swing the ball both ways, could’ve been handy. Unfortunately, he did not get to play a game for SRH.
2. Yash Dhull

Yash Dhull was deemed to be the future of DC and India. But due to his bad performances in the IPL 2023, the right-handed batter could not get a game for the 2020 finalists. The young batter could anchor the innings and bat aggressively whenever required. The bad form of some of the players should’ve promoted DC to play him in the XI. Unfortunately, it did not happen.

RCB had a poor bowling attack in the first half of the season. In the period, they tried a lot of options and could not find the right combination. They tried the likes of Reece Topley, Lockie Ferguson, and Alzarri Joseph among their overseas pace options. However, someone like Curran who could bat a bit, did not get a chance.
