IPL 2023, Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Kolkata Knight Riders, Match 47: Best memes from the game

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by five runs in the 47th match of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday, May 4. After coming close to finishing the chase, SRH failed to cross the line as KKR snatched a much-needed victory.

KKR skipper Nitish Rana won the toss and opted to bat first. The two-time IPL champions included Jason Roy in the playing eleven as they benched David Wiese. The game started off on a tense note for KKR as opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who played a key role in their previous clash against defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT), was cheaply dismissed by Marco Jansen for a duck.

Jansen struck again and dismissed number three batter Venkatesh Iyer while Kartik Tyagi, who returned to the SRH lineup dismissed Jason Roy (20) as KKR were 49/3 after the powerplay. However, skipper Nitish Rana led his team from the front, scoring 42 runs from 31 balls before being dismissed by Markram. With the knock, he also completed 2000 runs for KKR in the cash-rich league.

Andre Russel (24) and Rinku Singh (46) also played late cameos as KKR posted 171 runs in 20 overs. For SRH, Marco Jansen and T Natarajan picked two wickets while Mayank Markande, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kartik, and Markram each scalped one.

During the chase, Harshit Rana provided an early breakthrough for KKR as he dismissed opener Mayank Agarwal. Three SRH batters cheaply fell as they were 54/4 after the powerplay. However, skipper Aiden Markram led the charge for SRH as he scored 41 runs from 40 deliveries before being dismissed by Vaibhav Arora.

Keeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen (36) also provided a worthwhile contribution to SRH. Varun Chakravarty defended the target in the final over when SRH needed nine runs, conceding only four runs as KKR won by five runs.
