Delhi Capitals (DC) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by seven runs in Match 34 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday, April 24. This was only the second victory of the ongoing tournament for the David Warner-led side’s. Meanwhile, the defeat marked SRH’s third consecutive loss in the IPL 2023 season.
After winning the toss, DC skipper David Warner decided to bat first. DC batters once again struggled with the bat in this game, as they had in the previous matches. The Warner-led side managed to post a score of 144/9 in 20 overs despite the top-order collapse, thanks to late strikes from Manish Pandey (34 off 27) and Axar Patel (34 off 34). Meanwhile, for SRH, Washington Sundar claimed a three-wicket haul while Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked two wickets and T Natarajan scalped one.
With regards to Prithvi Shaw’s disappointing performance during the team’s six games, DC came up with a new batting line-up against SRH. Warner and Phil Salt opened Delhi’s batting against Hyderabad. Despite making a change in the top-order, DC’s plan backfired since the English batter was out for a golden duck.
Warner smashed his first six in the ongoing IPL off Washington Sundar against SRH. It took 247 balls for the 36-year-old to score his first six in the ongoing IPL season, which tops the most number of balls taken by a batter to score a maximum. Notably, this was DC’s first six in the powerplay so far in the IPL 2023. The Australian, who managed to score four half-centuries this season, scored only 21 runs from 20 deliveries against his former franchise.
SRH batters struggled with the bat during the chase, as they were restricted to 137/6 in 20 overs. Anrich Nortje and Axar Patel both claimed two wickets, while Ishant Sharma and Kuldeep Yadav took one each. Mayank Agarwal was the high-scorer of SRH, scoring 49 runs off 39 deliveries.
