The most awaited IPL 2023 has come to an end with MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings being crowned the champions for a record-equalling fifth time. In the summit clash, the defending champions Gujarat Titans hosted the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings, where Ravindra Jadeja held on the nerves to hit two boundaries in the last two deliveries to help CSK edge past GT in the last ball thriller.

Everyone stepped up in the finals for CSK, while chasing a massive 171 in just 15 overs in the rain-affected game. The IPL 2023 has broken many records, from most century in single season, most 200+ scores recorded in a single season, to most 200+ scores chased in a single season.

Top Performers:

Shubman Gill tops the batting chart with 890 runs at an average of 59.33, he is followed by RCB skipper Faf du Plessis at second spot with 730 runs at an average of 56.15. Devon Conway is in the third spot with 672 runs at an average of 51.69.

In the bowling department, Mohammed Shami tops the chart with 28 wickets in 17 games at an average of 18.61 and he is followed by his fellow mates Rashid Khan and Mohit Sharma in the next spot with 27 wickets each. Mohit Sharma averages 13.37 while Rashid Khan averages 20.44. Piyush Chawla is fourth in the list with 22 wickets at an average of 22.50.

Meanwhile let us look at the stats and numbers created and broken in IPL 2023.

5 -CSK equalled MI for winning the titles for joint-most number of times. CSK won title in the year 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023, while MI have claimed victories in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020

7263 -Virat Kohli became the first and only player in the history of IPL to score 7000 runs.

12 -A total of 12 centuries were recorded in IPL 2023, this is the most number of centuries recorded in an IPL Season. Previous 8 centuries were recorded in IPL 2022.

4 -MI have chased a total of 200 or more for four times, which is the most by a team in an IPL Season.

37 -A total of 200 or more has been registered 37 times in IPL 2023. Season 2022 holds the second best with 18 200+ scores.

7 -Virat Kohli Registered his seventh IPL century, becoming the player with most centuries in IPL as he surpassed former teammate Chris Gayle who has 6 IPL hundreds to his name.

6 -Ambati Rayudu equalled Rohit Sharma for most number of titles as a player in IPL. Rayudu has won six IPL titles, three with MI (2013, 2015 and 2017) and three with CSK (2018, 2021 and 2023)

1124 -A total of 1124 sixes have been hit in IPL 2023, the most in a season overall. Previously 1062 sixes were hit in 2022 season which is the second highest.

233/3 -GT scored 233 runs against MI in the Qualifier 2, which is the highest total by any team in the IPL playoffs. 226/6 by PBKS against CSK in 2014 was the previous highest.

129 -Shubman Gill scored 129 against MI in the Qualifier 2, which is the highest score by a batter in IPL playoffs. Gill surpassed Virender Sehwag’s 122 against CSK from 2014.

890 -Shubman Gill aggregated 890 runs in IPL 2023, the second highest by a batter in an IPL season. Virat Kohli tops the list with 973 runs (IPL 2016).

96 -Sai Sudharsan scored 96 against CSK in the finals, which is the highest score by an uncapped player in IPL finals. Manish Pandey previously scored 94 against PBKS in IPL 2014.

8 -A total of 200 or more was chased successfully for record 8 times in IPL 2023. Previously in 2014, targets of 200 or more was chased thrice.

5 -MS Dhoni has won five IPL trophies as captain- the joint most by any captain in IPL along with Rohit Sharma.

564 -Tushar Deshpande conceded 564 runs in IPL 2023, the most by a bowler in an IPL season. Rashid Khan is second in the list with 552 runs in IPL 2023, followed by Prasidh Krisna with 551 runs in IPL 2022.

23 -Shubman Gill (23) became the youngest player to grab both Orange Cap and Player of the tournament in IPL history.

153 -A total of 153 scores of 50+ have been recorded in IPL 2023, the most in an IPL season. Previously 118 50+ scores were recorded in IPL 2022.

214/4 -GT registered a total of 214 against CSK in IPL 2023 final, the highest total scored in IPL final, bettering the previous best of 208/7 recorded by SRH against RCB in IPL 2016 finals.

250 -MS Dhoni appeared in his 250th IPL game during the final of IPL 2023, the most matches played by any player in IPL. Rohit Sharma is next in the list with 243 games.

6 -MI scored over 200 runs for six times in IPL 2023, the most by any team in an IPL season. The second spot is shared between GT and CSK with 5 scores of over 200 in IPL 2023.

21 -Faf du Plessis has now scored a total of 21 fifty-plus scores in IPL after turning 35, the most by any player at the age 35 or more,  surpassing Chris Gayle’s tally of 17.
