Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni was seen smashing sixes in a training session held at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai recently and the video of the training session has set the internet alight. The sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to commence on March 31.
Defending champions Gujarat Titans will kickstart proceedings as they square off against four-time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While certain members of the CSK franchise have begun sweating it out ahead of the forthcoming season, captain MS Dhoni was seen smacking a few sixes during the training sessions.
The excitement among Chennai fans has increased ten folds as the league returns to action in Chepauk after three years. In addition to the same, fans could also witness their skipper donning the yellow jersey one last time and in action at their home ground this season.
CSK gunning to bring back glory days
Dhoni’s long-time deputy Ravindra Jadeja shouldered the responsibility of leadership in the previous season. However, due to the dismal performances, Dhoni returned as the skipper but concluded the season with just four wins from 14 outings and stood second last on the points table.
The Chennai-based franchise has roped in the services of English all-rounder Ben Stokes for a massive INR 16.25 crore at the auction in December 2022. Furthermore, the management also made a tactical change to their squad as they acquired the services of Ajinkya Rahane following the exit of Robin Uthappa.
The four-time IPL winners will be gunning to get back their glory days and start afresh when they face Gujarat on Friday, March 31. CSK will hope to give a proper send-off to India’s World Cup winning skipper as the upcoming edition could potentially be Dhoni’s final season in the IPL. All eyes will be on the skipper when he takes the field against Hardik Pandya and Co. for the curtain raiser.
