Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni is aging like a fine wine as he once again put his magnificent glove work on display during Match 29 of IPL 2023 against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday, April 21. The veteran wicketkeeper inflicted three dismissals at CSK’s home ground, the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and made the crowd go wild.
The Chepauk crowd got to see their favourite person at his absolute best as he first took a sharp catch in the 13th over of the first innings to dismiss SRH captain Aiden Markram. Markram was looking to smack Maheesh Theekshana towards covers but ended up edging the ball straight to Dhoni, who made no mistake behind the stumps.
The 41-year-old further put his lighting-fast stumping on display to dismiss Mayank Agarwal who had ventured out of his crease against Ravindra Jadeja in the 14th over. Seeing Agarwal charging towards him, Jadeja dropped the ball short as Agarwal ended up missing it altogether and Dhoni took no time to whip the bails off.
CSK captain further showed his great presence of mind on the last ball of the innings as Marco Jansen tried to run a ‘bye’ as after missing the delivery by Matheesha Pathirana. Dhoni, who had already taken the gloves off before the ball delivery, quickly collected the ball and hit the stumps with immaculate precision and inflicted a run-out.
The ‘Captain Cool’ couldn’t entertain his fans with his humongous sixes but ended up putting a keeping masterclass on display. In the limited opportunities Dhoni has got to bat in the season so far, he has batted at a strike rate of 210.71 smashing six sixes and two fours.
Coming back to the match, courtesy of Dhoni’s keeping masterclass and Jadeja’s three-wicket haul, CSK restricted SRH to 134/7 in their allotted 20 overs. They chased down the target in 18.4 overs with Devon Conway top-scoring with 77* off 57 balls and won the match by 7 wickets. With this win, CSK climbed to the third position in the points table with four wins in six matches.
