The 64th game of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 features a clash between the David Warner-led Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala on Wednesday, May 17.

Delhi Capitals became the first team to be knocked out of the playoff race of the IPL 2023 after their recent loss to Punjab Kings. The David Warner-led side would look to end the tournament on a winning note and would be keen on winning their next two matches. On the other hand, Punjab’s chances for qualification are bleak but still possible; hence, the Shikhar Dhawan-led side would come into the game all guns blazing.

Here’s Delhi Capitals’ predicted XI against Punjab Kings:

Openers: David Warner (c), Philip Salt (wk)

After a string of poor performances, skipper David Warner finally put in an impressive performance for Delhi Capitals in the previous game. Warner scored 54 runs in 27 deliveries when Delhi took on Punjab. However, his knock ultimately proved to be in vain, as the middle-order batters could not add much.

English batter Phil Salt also looked to be in touch in the last game. However, he was unable to make as much of an impact as he was sent packing after scoring just 21 runs in 17 deliveries. Salt would hope that he can improve upon his performance in the forthcoming matches and end the rest of the tournament on a positive note.

Middle Order: Manish Pandey, Rilee Rossouw

Delhi Capitals’ middle-order could not stand up to the expectations in the last game. Indian batter Manish Pandey came in as an impact player against Punjab Kings and he was sent packing for a duck by Harpreet Brar. Chasing a target of 168 runs, Delhi were unable to build upon the good start provided by David Warner.

South African batter Rilee Rossouw has had a season to forget in the IPL 2023. In the seven matches that he has played so far, Rossouw has only scored 127 runs. In Delhi’s previous game, Rossouw was sent back to the pavilion for just five runs. If the side is looking to win their forthcoming game, Delhi would expect a better performance from their middle-order.

All-rounders: Mitchell Marsh, Axar Patel

Mitchell Marsh had a subpar outing in his last game as well; the Australian all-rounder only bowled one over in his previous clash against Punjab, where he conceded 21 runs. Furthermore, his outing with the bat wasn’t really special either. The 31-year-old only scored three runs before he was dismissed by Rahul Chahar.

Axar Patel has been in scintillating form for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2023. Being one of the most consistent players for his side in the ongoing season, Axar took one wicket and conceded 27 runs in four overs in the last game. However, he fell prey to Rahul Chahar and was dismissed for just one run during the run chase.

Bowlers: Khaleel Ahmed, Kuldeep Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Mukesh Kumar, Praveen Dubey

The bowling attack of Delhi Capitals put in a good performance in the previous game. Despite ultimately losing the game, the bowlers did a good job limiting Punjab to a decent total. Khaleel Ahmed was the only bowler in the side who did not take any wickets in the previous game. Bowling four overs, Ahmed conceded 36 runs.

Kuldeep Yadav also bowled four overs in Delhi’s previous game, where he took one wicket and conceded 32 runs in the process. Furthermore, Mukesh Kumar only bowled a single over in the game, but it surely was a memorable one. The 29-year-old conceded just three runs in the over and dismissed Prabhsimran Singh, who had scored a century.

Praveen Dubey put in a good spell against Punjab as well, playing his first game of the IPL 2023. Bowling three overs in the game, Dubey conceded 19 runs and took one wicket, which was crucial in limiting Punjab to a decent total.

Veteran Indian pacer Ishant Sharma was the highest-taker for Delhi in their previous clash against Punjab Kings. Bowling three overs, Ishant took two wickets and conceded 27 runs in the process. Despite being eliminated from the competition, the team would hope for an improved performance in the forthcoming game and would look to end the tournament on a winning note.
