Since a lot of Indian pacers like Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, and Mohsin Khan are currently injured, young pace sensation Shivam Mavi is aiming to grab more limelight in the upcoming Indian Premier League and get into the national squad ahead of the ODI World Cup scheduled later in 2023.

The 24-year-old has come up with a special delivery this season, about which he revealed ahead of the 16th edition of the competition. Mavi confirmed that he is working on a new delivery and is 99% ready with it.

“I have planned a special delivery for this IPL, will not mention here what it is but hopefully I am able to execute it and then I will talk about it. I am at 99 per cent with it, the work is still in progress,” the pacer was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Mavi had a poor season last time around, picking just five wickets in six matches at an economy of 10.32. He was released by Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the IPL auction and ended up being bought by the Gujarat Titans for INR 6 crore at the mini auction. However, after that, he has been tremendous in domestic cricket, having picked 14 wickets in seven matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and 10 wickets in seven matches in Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy.

I am backing myself to score 30-35 runs towards the end: Mavi

Ahead of Gujarat’s opening game against Chennai Super Kings on March 31, Mavi mentioned that the team has strengthened their bench strength and worked a lot on their batting this time around. The pacer went on to add that if required, he can also contribute 30-35 runs towards the end of the innings.

“The kind of cricket we played last year wherein everyone played their respective roles, similarly, this year too we would want to play our roles. But this year we also have bolstered our bench strength, we felt we lacked on this front so we worked on it,” he said.

“You would have witnessed that (lower order) batting has become very important for all teams in the last 1-2 years, irrespective of the teams whether it is your country or IPL or any domestic side. If you are able to execute 2-3 hits then it is very beneficial to your side. I am backing myself to score say 30-35 runs towards the end with the tail-end batters,” he concluded.
