Cricket has been rapidly expanding its wings across the globe. After the advent of the T20 Leagues around the world, a major shift happened in the world of sports. Earlier only a few exhibition matches used to take place. Apart from that, the only major cricketing action happened in the United States of America (USA).
However, of late, after the Indian Premier League (IPL) became the top five most popular sporting leagues in terms of overall net revenue generation, the sport has gripped one of the most powerful nations in the world. Fascinatingly enough, in recent trends, politics in its various dimensions has been promoting cricket. As a result, the diplomats of USA along with India have been taking a deep interest in the game, especially after the inaugural Major League Cricket began in the United States. In the same vein, recently, the US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, took centre stage to discuss his love and vision for the game of cricket.
Notably, Garcetti announced in what was a breakthrough for cricket last year, that the sport will be a part of the Los Angeles Olympics in a meeting of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which is slated to take place in the year 2028. The US Ambassador believes that the craze for cricket is not going to stop and sooner it will contribute in the economies of various nations who are still untouched by cricket.
“I think it’ll take about a decade. But here’s your investment tip: Invest in major league cricket now; the payoff will be big in the future. It’s kind of like major league soccer — everybody said it wasn’t going to succeed, and now those teams are so big,” Garcetti was quoted as saying by Skift.
