A case of theft has emerged from the residence of former Indian cricketer, Yuvraj Singh, located in MDC Sector 4, Panchkula. The mishap has cast a shadow of suspicion on the household staff. Shabnam Singh, Yuvraj’s mother, revealed that the housekeeping aide, Lalita Devi from Saketdi, and the cook, Sildar Pal from Bihar, are under scrutiny.
Shabnam, who had been residing at their alternative abode in Gurgaon since September 2023, returned to the MDC house on October 5, 2023, only to INR 75,000 in cash and a collection of precious jewellery missing from a first-floor cupboard. Despite her diligent efforts, no substantial leads were unearthed. Adding to the intrigue, Lalita Devi and Sildar Pal abruptly terminated their employment and absconded during the Diwali festivities.
Shabnam’s suspicion regarding the former employees have spurred police action, leading to an official registration of the case and an intensified investigation. SHO Mansa Devi emphasized the need for a cautious balance between investigative efficiency and media management, remarking, “If we disclose everything to the media, how will we manage to apprehend the thieves?”
SHO Dharampal Singh of Mansa Devi, echoing similar sentiments, initially engaged with the media but later ceased communication, citing the complexity of managing information flow amidst ongoing investigations. When pressed at the police station, he reiterated the challenge of balancing media inquiries with the imperative of cracking the case.
