Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid, along with other players, won hearts with their thoughtful gesture towards journalists during a long flight back to India. The Men in Blue found themselves stranded in Barbados for three days due to Hurricane Beryl, which caused flight cancellations across the island.

In response, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) arranged a special Air India charter flight to bring the players, their families, and Indian journalists covering the event back home safely. The 16-hour journey from Barbados to New Delhi became an unexpected opportunity for interaction between the cricketers and the media, as Jay Shah earlier offered stranded Indian media to travel home in the same flight as players.

While the players were seated in Business Class and the journalists in Economy, what transpired during the flight was far from a typical journey.

Men in Blue depart for Mumbai for a special celebration

Despite initial instructions for privacy, several key members of the Indian cricket team, including Rohit Sharma, vice-captain Hardik Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, Suryakumar Yadav, and coach Dravid, took time to visit and spend moments with the journalists in Economy Class, as per reports.

The BCCI allowed journalists to hold and take pictures with the T20 World Cup trophy, a rare opportunity that further bridged the gap between the team and the media. The team finally landed in the capital city on Thursday morning and headed straight to the team hotel.

After that, the whole squad along with the coach left for the meet and greet session with PM Narendra Modi at his residence. The champions will leave for Mumbai in the afternoon for the special open-top bus parade arranged by the BCCI. The parade will be for around one km, from Nariman Point across Marine Drive to the Wankhede Stadium. The board has also organized a special event at the stadium with the team receiving their cash reward.
