India Women to tour Bangladesh in a bid to prepare for T20 World Cup

India’s Women’s Cricket Team are all set to embark on a thrilling five-match T20I series against Bangladesh starting April 28. The tour, scheduled to kick off in Sylhet, promises an exciting showdown between the two cricketing nations.

Sylhet, a picturesque city in Bangladesh, will play host to all five matches, with three exhilarating day-night encounters slated to take place in the main stadium and two-day games scheduled at the outer venue. Cricket enthusiasts can catch the action live, with the day-night clashes commencing at 6.30 pm local time and the day games starting at 2 pm.

For India, this series holds immense significance as they view it as a crucial stepping stone in their preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, slated to be held in Bangladesh later this year, in September-October. With the World Cup on the horizon, the Indian squad are leaving no stone unturned in fine-tuning their skills and strategies.

India women’s last Bangladesh tour was marred with controversies

This marks India’s second tour of Bangladesh in two years and their third overall. Reflecting on their previous encounters, in 2023, India locked horns with Bangladesh in a riveting series comprising three T20Is and as many ODIs. While India clinched the T20I series 2-1, the ODI series concluded in a tie.

However, the previous tour wasn’t devoid of controversies. Following the third ODI, which ended in a tie, India’s captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, had shown her discontent towards poor umpiring decisions, labelling them as ‘pathetic’. Kaur’s frustration boiled over when she was caught behind, prompting her to express dissatisfaction during the post-match presentation.

Looking ahead, India’s vice-captain, Smriti Mandhana, emphasized the importance of neutral umpires for future encounters, echoing the sentiments of fair play and sportsmanship. With the Indian squad set to arrive in Bangladesh on April 23, anticipation is running high among cricket aficionados. The fixtures promise an exhilarating display of cricketing prowess, with the schedule as follows:
