India vs Australia clashed in the third ODI of their three-match series at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on September 27. Opting to bat first, Australia got off to a strong start with opening batter David Warner and Mitchell Marsh putting up a solid partnership of 78 before Warner was dismissed by Prasidh Krishna in the ninth over.
Steven Smith then joined Marsh, and together they formed an impressive partnership, adding 137 runs for the second wicket. Australia finished their innings at 352/7 with Warner scoring 56, Marsh 96 and Smith and Labuschagne contributing 74 and 72, respectively. India’s Jasprit Bumrah stood out as the top bowler, taking three wickets after a poor start with the ball.
In response, India had a promising start with Rohit Sharma showcasing his vintage form. However, after losing their first wicket at 74, both Rohit and Virat Kohli were dismissed by Glenn Maxwell after a good partnership, pushing India on the backfoot. Rohit was dismissed for 81 while Kohli got soon after getting to his half-century. Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul tried to up the ante in the middle but they were also dismissed, leading to India’s eventual loss in the match by 66 runs.
The standout performers of the match were Marsh and Glenn Maxwell. The latter took four wickets for just 40 runs in 10 overs while Marsh took full advantage of the batting-friendly pitch, hitting 13 fours and three sixes before being dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav just four runs short of a well-deserved century. Maxwell proved to be a challenging bowler for the Indian team, getting the wickets of Sundar, Rohit, Kohli, and Shreyas, causing significant disruption to India’s batting order.
