Glenn Maxwell’s heroics propelled Australia to a thrilling victory, securing a well-deserved century for himself as the World Champions got off the mark in this five-match T20I series, defeating India by five wickets in Guwahati. The two teams will now lock horns in the fourth T20I match on Friday, December 1, 2023, at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s blistering century, Suryakumar Yadav’s (39) and Tilak Varma’s contribution helped the Men in Blue to a commanding total of 222 for three in their allotted 20 overs. Jason Behrendorff was the pick of the bowlers for Australia, returning with a spell of 1/12 in his four overs. Aaron Hardie had a day to forget, conceding 64 runs with a wicket to his name.

In response to India’s challenging 222, Travis Head provided a good start with a quick-fire 35 off 18 balls. Glenn Maxwell then produced a sensational innings, scoring a century at a whopping strike rate of over 200, including eight fours and eight sixes. Maxwell’s knock guided Australia to victory, with a cameo from Matthew Wade scoring 28 off 16 balls. In the end, Australia won the match by five wickets. Maxwell was awarded the Player of the Match award for his match-winning 104*(48).

Australia will now look to level the series before the final T20I in Bengaluru. Sean Abbott, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Steven Smith, and Adam Zampa are home as Australia announced wholesale changes as Ben McDermott, Josh Philippe, Chris Green and Ben Dwarshuis joined the Australian squad for the last two T20Is.
