Glenn Maxwell delivered a remarkable bowling performance, while Josh Hazlewood was also highly economical with the ball in Australia’s 66-run win in Rajkot against India. This win prevented Australia from experiencing a clean sweep against India for the first time.
After Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat first, Warner and Marsh got off to a blazing start, putting up 78 runs in just 8.1 overs. Warner’s fiery innings came to an end when Prasidh Krishna dismissed him for a quickfire 56 off 34.
Following Warner’s departure, Smith and Marsh combined for a 137-run partnership before Kuldeep Yadav provided India with a breakthrough by dismissing Marsh for 96. In response, India experimented with a new opening pair consisting of Rohit Sharma and Washington Sundar. They provided a solid start, amassing 74 runs, however, Maxwell struck early for Australia, dismissing Sundar for 18 runs.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma then formed a promising partnership of 70 runs. But once again, it was Maxwell who provided the crucial breakthrough by removing Rohit, who had scored a fiery 81 off 57, featuring five fours and six sixes.
Kohli, meanwhile, notched up a half-century before falling to Maxwell, having scored 56 off 61. Maxwell was the standout performer, recording his career-best figures of 4/40, while Josh Hazlewood chipped in with two wickets. For his outstanding spell, Maxwell earned the Player of the Match award.
