India have always been a cricketing side with a history of resurrecting from the dead to give it their all. Recently, they proved the narrative yet again by coming in as dark horses in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy by turning up the heat on Australia in the inaugural game of the five-match series. Having been bruised at home by New Zealand to an infamous whitewash, India came out all guns blazing to claim victory in the first Test by a whopping 295-run margin at Perth Stadium.

Legendary India cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar, with a classic instance of the Australian media coming all-out on India, proved why India would possess that extra hunger to achieve victory in the ongoing series.

“Now remember that Suryakumar Yadav catch in the T20 World Cup final. There were so many things being written in the media in Australia which questioned the legality of that catch. How can you, sitting right here in Australia, question if Suryakumar’s feet touched the ground? That is why our team showed that we are a side [that] will thrash you in this series,” stated Gavaskar, as quoted by India Today.

Shows that each time Australian media goes against India: Gavaskar

He provided another occasion of India coming up on top after the contentious incident involving Harbhajan Singh and Andrew Symonds.

“I remember India’s win at Perth in the 2007–08 series came right after that controversy between Harbhajan Singh and Andrew Symonds, which was followed by criticism from the Australian media. So that win in Perth, and the win this time (also in Perth), it shows that each time it’s the Australian media that goes against India,” he added.

An inspiring effort from standby skipper, Jasprit Bumrah, followed up by truly iconic tons by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli paved the way for a memorable victory at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The victory was all the more special considering India were in a tight spot on Day 1 of the game after being bowled out for a paltry 150 within the first couple of sessions.
