India comeback after three years feels like rebirth: Varun Chakravarthy

Varun Chakravarthy shared his feelings after bowling a fine spell on his comeback to international cricket after three years during the first T20I between India and Bangladesh, which took place at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior on Sunday, October 6.

Chakravarthy, who featured in his first match in India colours since 2021, bagged three wickets and conceded 31 runs in his four overs as Bangladesh were bowled out for 127 in the first innings. In reply, India made light work of the chase as they romped to victory with seven wickets and 8.1 overs to spare.

After India’s convincing win, Chakravarthy said that playing for India after three years was an emotional moment for him. The mystery spinner stated that the comeback “feels like a rebirth”.

“After three long years, it was definitely emotional for me. Feels nice to be back in the Blues. It feels like a rebirth. I just want to stick to the process, that’s what I have been following in the IPL as well,” Chakravarthy told Jio Cinema in a post-match interview.

The 33-year-old cricketer said that his focus is on doing well in the present and not on what could happen in the future.

“I don’t want to go beyond what’s there. I just want to stay in the present. After the IPL, I played a few tournaments, and one of those was the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). It’s a very good tournament with a high standard,” Chakravarthy said.

Working with Ashwin bhai during TNPL really worked well for me: Chakravarthy

Chakravarthy played under Ravichandran Ashwin’c captainy for Dindigul Dragons in Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2024. The Dragons went on to win the title and Chakravarthy made a big impact as he picked up 12 wickets in 10 matches at 19.83. Chakravarthy said that bowling in tandem with Ashwin helped him become a better bowler.

“Working with Ashwin bhai during TNPL really worked well for me. We won the championship as well, and that gave me the confidence here. It was good preparation for this series,” Chakravarthy stated.

Chakravarthy said that he kept on persevering during his time away from the national team and finally managed to make a comeback. However, the Bidar-born mentioned that his focus was on staying in contention for a spot in the Indian team.

“Once you’re not in the Indian side, people tend to write you off very easily. You need to stay at the highest level and keep knocking on the door. Thankfully, this time it happened. Hopefully, I can continue my good work.,” Chakravarthy said.
